Delany Sisters House

Sarah Louise "Sadie" Delany and Annie Elizabeth "Bessie" Delany Home on Edgmont Avenue. They were authors and civil rights pioneers.  In 1992, they collaborated on Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years, which dealt with the trials faced during their century of life. It was a bestseller and became a Broadway play and in 1999 a television movie starring Diahann Carroll and Ruby Dee.  The sisters lived in Mount Vernon for a large portion of their adult lives.  Photograph ©1993 and Courtesy of Alif Archives.
