Join us as we lobby Westchester County and the City of Mount Vernon to make the Stevens House a museum.
Our vision is to restore the Stevens House to its original form, make it handicapped accessible and house several exhibits.
Ideas for exhibits include: Hip Hop and Mount Vernon – a video and oral history of Mount Vernon’s contribution to film comedy and music industries featuring short films and artifacts from Denzell Washington, Ludacris, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Heavy D and the Boyz, Intro, JB Smooth, Nina Simone, Tina Sattin and much more.
On the first floor we can have an exhibit featuring John Stevens and the History of the Jewish Immigration, showing the founding of Mount Vernon to the establishment of several synagogues and the Jewish Y.
Lastly we will have a showcase of artifacts from Donna M Jackson which represent the largest collection of historical treasures in the world.
We aim to raise $2 million dollars toward the restoration of the Stevens House and turn the Doles Center Parking Lot into a state of the art parking area to house visitors.
We will partner with the Schomburg Museum, Westchester County and National Historical Archives to achieve our goals.
